Why is Masjid al-Qiblatain famous?
During prayer here, in 2 AH, the revelation came commanding the Prophet ﷺ and the Companions to turn from Jerusalem toward the Ka'bah in Makkah. They physically turned mid-prayer - hence "the Mosque of the Two Qiblahs."
Significance & history
The qiblah change is a defining moment in Muslim history - Qur'an 2:144. Masjid al-Qiblatain marks the spot where it happened. The original two mihrabs were preserved for centuries; today's design highlights the Makkah-facing mihrab while historically referencing both directions.

Role in the ritual
Not a Hajj or Umrah rite. Recommended Sunnah visit - pray a nafl if a prayer time coincides with your visit and reflect on the qiblah verse.

- Do not linger only for photos - this is an active mosque.
- Modest dress; women use the marked women's section.
- Keep voices low; avoid disturbing worshippers.
