The Rituals of Umrah - Step by Step

Overview

    1. Ihram & Miqat

    2. Tawaf - Seven Circuits

    Begin at the Black Stone with the Kaaba on your left, complete seven full circuits, then pray two rakats at Maqam Ibrahim. 【BOOK: Tawaf steps + duas】

    3. Sa'i - Safa to Marwah

    4. Halq / Taqsir - Exiting Ihram

    Men shave (halq - preferred) or trim (taqsir) their hair; women trim a fingertip's length. Ihram restrictions then end. 【BOOK】

Talbiyah

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la sharika laka labbayk, inna al-hamda wa an-ni'mata laka wa al-mulk, la sharika lak

حاضر ہوں اے اللہ حاضر ہوں، تیرا کوئی شریک نہیں، حاضر ہوں۔ بے شک تمام تعریفیں اور نعمتیں تیرے لیے ہیں اور بادشاہت بھی، تیرا کوئی شریک نہیں۔

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. All praise, grace, and dominion are Yours; You have no partner.

Dua between Rukn al-Yamani and the Black Stone

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhab an-nar

اے ہمارے رب! ہمیں دنیا میں بھی بھلائی دے اور آخرت میں بھی بھلائی دے، اور ہمیں دوزخ کے عذاب سے بچا۔

Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.

Common mistakes

  • !Passing Miqat without entering ihram and making intention.
  • !Miscounting Tawaf circuits - keep your own count, don't rely on the crowd.
  • !Counting a round trip as one lap in Sa'i; each one-way trip is a lap (total seven, ending at Marwah).
  • !Breaking ihram restrictions (perfume, stitched clothing) before Halq / Taqsir.

Do women need a special ihram garment?
Women wear their regular modest clothing as ihram; the face and hands remain uncovered, though they may be covered when needed.
Can a woman perform Tawaf while menstruating?
