Zamzam

The miraculous well that has flowed for over 4,000 years.

Quick Answer

What is Zamzam and why is it considered blessed?

Zamzam is the well Allah caused to spring at the feet of baby Isma'il ﷺ when his mother Hajar ﷺ ran seven times between Safa and Marwah searching for water. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.' It has flowed continuously for over 4,000 years.

Significance & history

The well lies below ground east of the Ka'bah. Modern Saudi hydrology continually monitors its recharge and purity. Ministry pipelines deliver Zamzam to every station in the Haram, to Masjid an-Nabawi, and to jerry cans distributed to pilgrims.

From the book
